Oh, I love it too, but for me it has to be well-done, especially if they've done something terrible. I read one manga where the female villain was an absolute monster but they tried to redeem her anyway and it just ruined everything for me.

Heck, Roy, Riza and the other military characters from FMA are my favorite example; they fought in a genocide but work to redeem themselves.
