Any favorite villains you like to see this done with?
Re: Kinks, narrative kinks, and favorite tropes!
In TV and movies as shit, man so many villains that have gotten a redemption arc I have loved. It all started with Darth Vader. Curse him.
In a similar vein asshole characters learning how to be less assholish is another killer trope for me.
Re: Kinks, narrative kinks, and favorite tropes!
I almost mentioned the redeeming-asshole-characters thing in my own comment upthread. It plays into a lot of the same emotional hooks for me as villain redemption, but I think it doesn't occur to people nearly as often.

I find asshole-redemption even more hit and miss than villain redemption. Either the character is written too nice to begin with or they're still far too mean by the end of it. This actually applies to my current fandom tbh because the character I love the most(Nick) is a huge dickbag but so few fics hit the sweet spot where he's still a git but clearly cares for his team.
Re: Kinks, narrative kinks, and favorite tropes!
I was actually disappointed they didn't go there yet with Loki in the last Avengers movie. But then I thought about it and I was mightily releived instead. There would be no point in ficcing him a redemption if it actually happened. So - more fanfic to enjoy.

Heck, Roy, Riza and the other military characters from FMA are my favorite example; they fought in a genocide but work to redeem themselves.
