My elaborate headcanon for him involves the fact that he hates, really deeply HATES, these modern "military contractors" with their fucking brochures and their offices and their corporate bottom-line thinking.

When he became a mercenary, it was about meeting a guy in a smoky barroom in Morocco, exchanging low words and a packet of cash. It had style, it had panache. Now you put on a fucking suit and go into an office with fluorescent fucking lighting and put it on your corporate fucking AmEx, and IF HE WANTED TO WEAR A SUIT HE WOULDN'T HAVE BECOME A FUCKING MERCENARY NOW WOULD HE

So, after catching up on a bunch of older comics, I kind of hateship Batroc with Hawkeye and Iron Fist (separately, together, either way). Can't decide whether that makes me feel subversive or just dirty...
