Sherlock is a show that's made by people when they aren't busy with their real work. It's no surprise that series 3 was disappointing because they devoted even less time than usual to making it.

TNG had some creepy episodes! Age doesn't really matter--if something hits you in that primal sweet spot of fear there's nothing you can do about that instinctive reaction. I was scared shitless by the freaking bubblegum monster in GhostWriter and it didn't bother my brother a bit.

Authors who get stiff-necked about fanfic make me roll my eyes. I mean, some of them have been told by their lawyers that it's bad (like McKinley), but some of them are like "how dare these plebes mess with my beloved creations" which is lol.

So don't bother with the fandom! Just watch the show and see if you like it, and if you don't, no loss! (If you do like it, either watch it alone, or find a nice little corner of FIMfiction with normal people in it and hang out with them. I practice active avoidance of a lot of varieties of crazy fan, particularly Spike stans and Discord stans.)

Incest squicks me a little too. But strange as it sounds, I was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming amounts of Elsanna I found. I'd only EVER seen that happen to BROTHERS before, leading to the uncomfortable feeling that it was a "fuck context and characterisation, ALL COCKS MUST TOUCH AT ALL TIMES" phenomenon. Seeing the instant pupularity of siscest in Frozen has made me a bit less of a jaded old sourpuss!

SPN is definitely one of the shows where the fandom has a very strong character and it's hard to be casually in the fandom, from my experience. IT's too bad you have to get out entirely, since discussion is so much fun, but yay for getting out when it was being too negative for you!
