This. Stan Lee seems to enjoy what he does while Alan Moore is the old, grumpy man yelling at kids to get off his lawn. He doesn't seem to enjoy doing what he does.

I think Alan Moore enjoys what he does (which seems to mostly involve being a bizarre old man doing weird shit and writing), he just doesn't enjoy what he's famous for doing (writing comics for the comics industry).

It's not really his fault that we want him to be this guy that he's not. And I can't really blame the dude for hating the mainstream comics industry.

I can't blame him for hating theainstream comic industry either. He just seems so grumpy and like he's pissed off at the entire world.

See, I think that's just because the only times you ever really hear from him is when people get in touch with him to ask him dumb questions about the mainstream comics industry. Which he hates.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's how it seems to me.

There's still nothing stopping him from saying "I know nothing about that, so I can't offer an opinion."

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this.

My honest impression is not just that he dislikes the mainstream comics industry, but that he really wants everyone else to hate it too. I think it's something he *likes* to complain about.

I could certainly be wrong, but that's the vibe I get from a lot of the stuff he says. And I find it kind of eye-rolling, though not enough to grump about - everyone's got things they love to hate.

A bit like poking a bear then. I can understand him being grumpy about that.

Why that hate on for Grant Morrison though? He brings it up all the time. ....kinda makes me hateship them together.

I think in a lot of ways Grant Morrison is the version of Alan Moore who's basically totally comfortable working in a corporate comics environment. And I can kind of see how that basic difference could lead to some clashes of personality. Only speculating though of course.

Still I like them both as writers.

I can blame him for hating it. He hasn't been involved in it for years, hasn't read damn near all of the things he complains about, and then basically talks out of his ass about how things he hasn't read or been involved in in any way suck.
