First of all. This is NOT a secret, and should have made the failbar. (I, for one, am glad that it did not.)

Secondly. Even if they hadn't decided to pander to the lowest common denominator in the fandom, and had provided more plot, experience has shown that it would be Moffat's plot.

This would NOT be a good thing, OP.

Poor BBC Sherlock. The idea was excellent, the initial execution was fair to middling, and then it completely tanked, when they decided to make it a 100%-fanfiction-driven show, powered by the insane babblings of teenaged Tumblr users.

Which, is fine, now it's a kids' show, OP. As long as you realize that, you'll be able to either roll wth it, and keep watching, or dismiss it entirely, and move on to better, more intelligent fare.

I think you've hit on what irritates me the most about the show: the fact that it/it's fans, all seem to think that it's this super well-written, intelligent, smart show. And...it's...it's just not.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
So much this. I'm fine with people liking pretty much whatever they want, as long as they recognize the show/movie for what it is. All of the people I have seen who rave on and on about how well written and intelligent this show is drive me up a wall.

"all seem to think that it's this super well-written, intelligent, smart show. And...it's...it's just not."

Yeah, this is pretty common for media. Some of the really popular books that people call "well written" are not (and I'm not just talking stylistically, which is personal preference, I mean, there are more typos/grammar errors than just "whoops! Missed one!" and a lot of sentences that make no sense.)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
The funniest example I can think of is the Twin Peaks fandom, where many refuse to introduce the show to their friends or family because they think the show it "too smart" for most people to understand.

Nevermind the fact that the show is over two decades old and was one of the most popular shows on network television back in the day.

something tells me that they don't actually thuinkm it's 'too smart;' they recognize its limitations and don't want anyone else to notice and/or bring them up.

in other words, they want to project and protect an image of intelligence that they know deep down is bullshit.

so basically, it's the new 'lost.'

Hmm, I don't know. I've seen a lot of shippers go ecstatic over the (once again) copious amount of queerbaiting. If OP runs in those circles I can see why it would be a secret, because OMG how dare you criticize those "relationship episodes".

I feel much the same, really. I liked the previous serious, this one just seemed so sloppy and lazy.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's the thing, though. They don't recognize it as queerbaiting, or at least some of them don't. They think it's really going to be endgame, poor things.

Yeah, I noticed. I can already smell the coming shitstorm in the distance.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the spooge will be flying fast and furious.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
THIS.

I was initially a big fan of the show... but then I realized that, in reality, the show is not as good as the fandom think it is.

In fact, in some episodes, it's poorly written.

I am impressed by your skill with litotes.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Litotes?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
it's a special form of understatement through negation of a positive.
