LJ and ff.net. The hipsters started bashing ff.net so everybody fled to AO3. AO3 was then flooded with the people who used to use ff.net. As a result, AO3 became the new ff.net.

In a few years the hipsters will bash AO3 and a new place to store fic will pop up. Then the cycle will be repeat itself.

Some what I've heard, in some fandoms it already is.

Tbh I've always been kind of fond of ff.net, despite its flaws.

I've generally been fond of the FFN structure, just sad that whenever a fandom got "good"/lots of quality fic, it always went elsewhere.

fwiw I still post there, same as I do on other sites. I still get decent traffic, too.
I like that in general, ff.net has maintained reasonable stability. While it's true that there was the whole drama with banning NC-17, and scriptfic, and I'm still annoyed at some of the special characters they don't allow, it's been pretty decent overall, imo.
