So don't bother with the fandom! Just watch the show and see if you like it, and if you don't, no loss! (If you do like it, either watch it alone, or find a nice little corner of FIMfiction with normal people in it and hang out with them. I practice active avoidance of a lot of varieties of crazy fan, particularly Spike stans and Discord stans.)

This! Try to avoid the fandom as much as possible and disassociate it from the show (might work especially since you haven't really seen the show). It's a great show and it's adorable. Just enjoy it on your own! If you really want to talk to someone about it, you can come here (to GC or whatever, or make a secret), since everyone here is pretty much anti-horrible-parts-of-fandom.

The biggest problem with 'avoid the fandom' is that it's next to impossible to avoid it. Whether it's Bronies or even the saner part of it, the fandom is everywhere. You don't even get the chance to disassociate from the fandom, it's just always there in your face.

This also applies to Sherlock, Supernatural, and Homestuck, whose fandoms have made it impossible for me to even entertain the notion of getting into said mediums.
