I've never been one to moan about creators taking a long time to produce stuff, but fuck it. Three episodes every two years is laughable. I don't know what the reason behind that is, but it better be a good one -and I'm not even in this fandom.

Moffat also runs Doctor Who, while both of the lead actors have been off on movies, and while Peter Jackson was quite willing to work around the Sherlock schedule, I think it still shows on Sherlock.
