Given some of the conversations we have on here, the thing that surprises me most is that you feel the need to keep this secret.

+1

The shear hatred so many people in fandom have for smokers is mindboggling (and kind of hilarious)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's especially weird considering how obsessed with fat acceptance so many people in fandom are. Like, you either think people should be able to do what they want with their bodies or you don't. You can't have it both ways.

Exactly. If you're fat because you eat too much then it's okay, but god forbid you're a smoker, a drinker or *gasp* a drug user. I've even seen people hating on coffee, of all things.

edit: i can't spell for shit

Second hand smoke is a thing you know? And is especially dangerous for the most vulnerable part of the society(childrens, elders, sick people, etc). Also, drinking can be really dangerous is you convine it with driving. And alot of violent crimes ocurr under the influence of drugs.

I understand that, but acknowledging that the actions of some smokers/drinkers/drug-users are harmful to others and being scornful and disdainful toward all of them as if they were a hivemind are two different things.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
And you have to understand that some people has been really affected by smokers/drinkers/drug-users. If you lose someone close to you by a drunk driver, I bet you're are gonna have some prejuice for drunkers. Same if you have a child with asthma or if a drug-abuser hurt you.

Smokers are harming all the people around them and polluting. So no, sorry, is not "some" is "all".

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
In fairness, I'm not sure that's an apt comparison. I've never seen a fat person set off somebody's asthma or spark a migraine by being fat.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
The thing with smoking is that it doesn't affect only the people who does it.

And as someone who had to move recently because my finally former neighbor loved to smoke both in their apartment (just bellow mine) and on the stairs and all that smoke was making wonders (haha) for my respiratory issues, I just want to say: smokers, go away. Or DIAF alone and stop trying to kill everyone around you. The later would be better, tbh.

They were smoking inside the building? Isn't that forbidden?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
So is smoking within 25 ft of an entrance in many cities, but some smokers don't care.

Yeah I guess some people will keep on being arses no matter what, but in this particular case maybe anon could have told the landlord/lady or something.

(ayrt)
Just because something is forbidden doesn't mean people doesn't do it or that there is a way to make them stop doing it that doesn't involve a lawsuit that would take months or even years and that no one would take serious anyway.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that single example you gave completely justifies wishing painful death on a large group of people.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically they're already killing themselves and chance are they will have a slow and painful death (because lung cancer is not nice, really). Wishing they would do it faster and without harming the people around them is really that bad?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Yes it is, and fuck you too.

let me tell you about the night that I was accidentally booked in a smoking room instead of regular. I couldn't sleep all night, and it set off a coughing attack that lasted three days.
Cigarette smoke fucks up my lungs and my body. Fat people don't. Amazing.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
There was no way of correcting it or anything? I mean, there's a reason smoking sections are separate.
ketita: (Default)

[personal profile] ketita 2014-02-04 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
sadly, no, there were no other rooms available at the time...

You sound salty as hell.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
So uh...why didn't you just ask to switch to another room or leave to get another room instead of blaming smokers for you not being proactive?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
*leave to get another hotel
