You might want to try The Mentalist. It's a smart little show that seems to hew more towards classic "whodunits" as opposed to OMG FORENSICS. If it has one problem, it's that its central myth arc (remember how shows used to have that?) dragged on about a year or two too long, but it seems to have finally seen a conclusion. Because of that, it's had a major shakeup not too long ago with some cast/location changes. I suggest you start from the first episode.
