Here in France we have 4 sorts of cinemas (in big cities): big cinema chains which have mostly blockbusters and where the movies are dubbed, independent cinemas or smaller cinema chains which have a bit more variety and subtitles, intellectual cinemas which have intellectual/indie/non-American foreign movies (with subtitles), and adult cinemas which have, well, adult movies and often double as a bar.

Yup! And I remember reading somewhere on here that you live in Belgium? If so that's awesome, I love that country!

I apologize in advance if this is a silly question, but. I think I read somewhere about an underground cinema in Paris where people snacked on couscous while watching movies, and was left wondering (among many things!),is couscous such a common thing to eat at a cinema?

Ooh are you talking about this? This kind of thing is so typically Parisian lmao

Anyway, couscous is definitely not a common thing to eat at a cinema, haha. In fact most of the time there's nobody eating during the movie, except maybe one or two people with popcorn. On the other hand couscous is pretty common at casual movie nights, so I guess this cinema was more of a private thing between a select group of people?

Ahahah, yes :'D That one, indeed!

I had guessed it was a quite private thing (what with the setup and being hidden in a catacomb). The couscous part, at least, was something I knew I could ask to a French among the things that piqued my attention in that anecdote. Here we don't eat it as much, but it's more like rice or potatoes - a side dish.

People here eat at the big cinemas (multiplexes?), which is something we copied from the Gringos. But at the smaller ones, which usually show indie/intellectual movies ("Cine-Arte", we call it), it's not something done.
