You know, I'm a lot the same way. I'm really lenient with swearing or legitimately jesting slurs, as long as it's not being used to directly insult someone. But "faggot" is just a horrible word, all around. It's one of the few that I'll actually get mad over, regardless of context.

Yep. Also it really doesn't take a slur for someone to say some of the nastiest insults that could legitimately break down a person. Some of the meanest people I've encountered don't really swear that much at all.

Insults are most effective when they're precise and accurate. I've always thought that swearing makes a swear sound artificial. Like, you couldn't come up with a powerful enough insult, so you have to add in this word just to show the person how intense it's supposed to be.
