Re: Did you ever really like the premise of a show, but not care for how it was executed?

Romeo X Juliet. Expanding the scope of the play so that the Montagues launched a bloody coup de'tat on the ruling Capulet family and leaving Juliet as the only surviving heir? Mixing in concepts from Shakespeare's other plays, like making Juliet dress as a boy to hide her identity? Having Romeo and Juliet be raised as the hopeful heirs of the royal throne, except Juliet is expected to take the throne from Romeo via a revolution? YEEEEEESSSS, sign me the fuck UP!

Aaaand then they shot the whole beautiful premise down in the first two episodes by having Juliet be TOTALLY IGNORANT of her royal heritage so a) she can meet Romeo and fall in love and b) so they can do the over-dramatic YOU ARE THE LONG-LOST PRINCESS trope. Nearly every single thing that went wrong afterwards was because her retainers kept this a secret from her. It all went downhill from there.
