Well in your specific case as a lit prof, i know i LOVE reading but hate English classes. I dont like Sedaris so i would not enjoy that section of the class...in one of my college lit classes we had to read Death in Venice and i hated it. HATED. Actually in general i disliked the books where the story is boring or depresding but who cares because metaphors!! I dont care if its actually an imsightful metaphor about death, i dont wanna read three pages about a guy spilling his coffee or whatever. Im not highbrow enough for that nonsense.

I hear ya. I had to read plenty of stuff I didn't like in school. Foucault, bleck. LOL

It's impossible to make a reading list that will please everyone, unfortunately.
