...I can understand that point. I don't think I've ever seen anything but comic renditions or character art of either video.

Actually I kind of agree. I love the artwork and I love the comics that delve into what the videos are supposed to be saying, but I have mixed feelings about the shipping. I love the artwork and all, but it's so typical of fandom to spring up over a ship. Not that I'm complaining, nor is that a bad thing imo, it's just so ... fandom.

I've never minded until this. It also makes me feel shitty because I really dislike anti-shippers, or anyone telling others how to be a fan of something.

I'm just glad that this fandom happened! DHMIS is the kind of thing that I get absolutely obsessed over and yearn for a fandom to lurk in/squee with, but of course it never happens because there isn't enough source material. Well, this time, it happened. I have been waiting years for this shit.

I'd like to think it's a sign of the times, and that this means there's all kinds of awesome inexplicable fandom phenomena ahead of us. If it comes with rainbow-haired notepad ladies... Well, so be it!

I'm probably following the wrong people. The only times I saw people talking about it were when they were talking about how much it scared them. Now I only see them drawing shippy stuff. It's disappointing because the first video really struck a chord in me.

I'm mostly disappointed that the popular character designs are generically pretty skinny perfect, tiny nose anime looking people. I had a fantasy that I could draw and drew Notebook and Clock (because fuck the names Paige and Tony) as these androgynous kind of ugly weirdos. Like, Notebook has disturbing pale papery skin that's flaking off and tearing. Clock has this gross, thin mustache and kind of looks like your creepy uncle with the potbelly.

I dunno. At first I was amused that people shipped it because I'm all about the crack shipping, but then I was kind of annoyed by it because of the character designs.

Do you know where the "Tony" thing started? Because it seems like even people who just call the notepad Notepad use Tony for him.

I think just calling him "Clock" sounds adorable for some reason, so I stick with that. :)

I consider the art and the video separate things. I think the videos are interesting. I think the art is pretty. I guess I'm a fan of both but I consider them different fandoms, if that makes sense. One is the fandom of the videos. One is the fandom of one artist's work and the other fanwork that sprung up around it.

Cause really, the two things have nothing to do with one another.

I would agree with this. The art work fandom is the very definition of "inspired by," because it has really nothing to do with the vids.

The humanized versions bug me for some reason--more as to WHY DO WE NEED THEM. Why does everything need a hot version? I want fanart of a clock and a pad of paper, damn it! I want PUPPETS!

I like it for the same reason I like a lot of WTNV art. It's fun to see what people come up with, and interesting to see so many different designs that are somehow recognizable as the same character.

Tbh, I'm fine with the hot versions, but I would love some actual clock and notebook artwork. I think their true forms would make for some great and possibly crazy (and less romantic) artwork/comics.

Yeah, I think I'd be less annoyed if there was more of a fandom for the videos themselves, but no one seemed interested until shipping happened. Now it's just all shipping.

See, I saw the comics and art first, loved them, and became interested in the source material... but when I realized the original was just non-humanoid puppets I was deeply disappointed. Still haven't watched the original video(s? is there more than one?) and I'm not sure I will, since it doesn't seem at all like the thing I thought I was getting interested in. Dammit, fandom.

OP, are you me? I was going to make a secret just like this! The humanized things drive me crazy, but honestly, any fandom for this is just abhorrent to me, at least in the Tumblr sense of fandom. I don't want to talk about what "motivates the characters", I don't want meta, I don't want backstory or shitty overused jokes or anything. I want to watch the videos, get creeped out, and show other people how creepy it is. That's it.
