In Person of Interest, John keep touching his ear thingy before talking, making it seem like he has to, but sometimes he doesn't, and it works just as well every damn time*.

A friend of mine said it was to make sure it was in their ears, but that makes no sense, because then they would do it to make sure they would hear not to talk.

Also where the heck is the mic? That annoys me in any kind of show/movie where they communicate with the ear plug thingy.

*I am just assuming it is a continuity error thing, but still.

I used to use a headset with different setting at an old job. On one I could leave it "open" and communicate back and forth freely on another I could mute my end of the conversation and only be able to listen. If I muted it I would have to touch my headset to reply. Sometimes when it was "open" I would touch my headset out of habit or just because it didn't feel right to not be securing it?

No idea if this applies to John but he could have it in a different setting so he has to touch it sometimes as well as touching it out of habit when he doesn't.

That could make sense, except at no point in the show does he turn of the com unit thingy, he hangs up the phone when he needs privacy...

I might not have explained properly? I had to hang up the phone to end the call too. I couldn't end the call from the headset, only mute my mic so I could listen to the person without them being bothered by my repeating what they were saying to others or background noises from the job site I was on. When I did that I would have to unmute (by pressing button on headset) to reply.

But if I was in a quiet location or the conversation demanded back and forth dialog I would leave my mic unmuted and I could answer without touching my headset.

I understood what you meant, he never does what you explained, only thing he does with the com unit thingy is to hang up once in a while, other than that the line is always open.

I am pretty sure this one is on me, I probably skipped a part when replying. I do that sometimes, because I assume you are in my brain and know what I am thinking, which is a major flaw to have...

Oh! I misunderstood your original comment, my bad! :D I didn't realize you meant that sometimes he answered calls on the headset physically and sometimes he didn't. I thought you meant he did this before replying to an ongoing conversation.

No, yeah I definitely had to physically answer an incoming call.

Oh no, he sometimes does it before replying, he just has no reason to do it, because even with your explanation he never mutes his end of the conversation...

This conversation is just full of misunderstandings, I am awful at explaining things, I would blame it on ESL, but I can't because I am just as bad in Norwegian...

Oh I definitely wasn't helping, I can assure you!

All I have is maybe sometimes off screen he has lots of calls where he has to unmute to reply and so sometimes out of reflex his hand goes to the headset before he speaks? Or maybe the movement of his jaw loosens the earpiece so sometimes before talking he secures it? Other than that...

All of it would make sense, except he has like 3 people he talks to and the one he keeps an open com unit to is always in the background listening, so he never has any reason to mute his calls, anything John says Finch can hear, that is just how it is when they are working. Earpiece is the word! And I will take the last explanation, it sometimes gets loosened! I does run and jump around a lot, so it could make sense!

Btw, I love that gif.!

I think the mic is a little stick-on thing on their throat? Not 100 percent sure, but very possibly.

It's certainly better than the people on Law and Order talking into their wrist.
