Little details that bug you

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-02-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really excited about Captain America. However, for some reason Natasha's hair in the trailers is really bugging me. It looks like a bad wig to me. Her Avengers hair was perfect and practical. This new hair looks like it would get in the way and not be useful for a spy.

So are there any sort of similar tiny details in fandoms that bug you even though they are little things that maybe shouldn't matter?

I hate her hair so much.

For me it is the clothing in Supernatural. For two guys living out of a car with a seemingly empty trunk, they have too many clothes.

The clothes thing bugs me in just about every fandom. No one owns enough clothes to never re-wear anything for an entire show's run. Maybe really wealthy women do, but when you're showing supposedly average women or men, they are not going to have that many clothes.

House sizes bug me too in a similar vein. The average person really doesn't have houses that big.

I've been enjoying Lost Girl because the characters seem to have favourite clothes that get worn over and over again. I still have no idea how they have electricity and nobody has noticed that they live in a condemned building, but at least they don't suffer from Infinite Wardrobe Syndrome.

If most of the clothes didn't make reappearances I could buy it as high wear and tear demanding frequent visits to thrift shops. I was obsessed with http://hells-half-acre.livejournal.com/105848.html for a hot minute back when I still watched SPN. WHERE ARE THEY KEEPING ALL THESE CLOTHES?!?

Hee. They actually recycle their clothes a lot - and now they have the bunker, so they can actually *own more stuff*.

But there's someone out there keeping track of the clothes on SPN and what shirt, etc., was worn when.

I haaaaaate her Captain America 2 hair. But I'm feeling much better about Chris Evans' hair.

In Person of Interest, John keep touching his ear thingy before talking, making it seem like he has to, but sometimes he doesn't, and it works just as well every damn time*.

A friend of mine said it was to make sure it was in their ears, but that makes no sense, because then they would do it to make sure they would hear not to talk.

Also where the heck is the mic? That annoys me in any kind of show/movie where they communicate with the ear plug thingy.

*I am just assuming it is a continuity error thing, but still.

I used to use a headset with different setting at an old job. On one I could leave it "open" and communicate back and forth freely on another I could mute my end of the conversation and only be able to listen. If I muted it I would have to touch my headset to reply. Sometimes when it was "open" I would touch my headset out of habit or just because it didn't feel right to not be securing it?

No idea if this applies to John but he could have it in a different setting so he has to touch it sometimes as well as touching it out of habit when he doesn't.

I'm still confused as to why they gave a wig to the actor playing the one canonically bald character in the Les Mis movie

This is a fic thing instead of canon, but: it bugs when people describe Derek in Teen Wolf as having callouses. He can heal from almost anything and you think he has callouses on his fingers/hands? I get it's supposed to be sexy and all about sensation, but it annoys me. The exception is human AUs, but I see it in regular fic too.

Now I want fic of someone appreciating how smooth and soft and flawless his skin is.

If I had £1 every time a guy is described as having calloused hands in fic I would be fucking rich, it's everywhere.

But yeah someone who can regenerate would more than likely have standard soft skin, unless they had sustained damage to it before the regeneration kicked in, but if it's always been there then chances are they wouldn't have rough skin.

Just a few minutes ago I saw Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on HBO for the first time in a few years and I forgot about the awkward slow clap ending the school gave Hagrid. Like, why did they do it? It just reminds me of the sports cliche of the sliw clap. Doesn't seem to belong in a Harry Potter film.

Yeah that bothered me too. Hagrid isn't even very well-liked except by the trio.

I'm sorry, because I adore the car, but even as a little kid watching it first-run aaaaages ago, I was certain that Starsky's glorious red Gran Torino was a terrible idea whenever they didn't want to be immediately ID'd as cops. Hutch's dirt-colored crumbling piece of shit on wheels made 1000X better camouflage.

I was recently reminded of this by all the meta in-jokes in Torchwood about everyone acting so secret about the giant black MI-5-esque vans with "TORCHWOOD" written on them :)

I don't dislike her hair but something about it... just doesn't look right to me. All I know is I vastly preferred her hair in Avengers.

Her hairstyle in Avengers was the best of all of her styles.

When characters are portrayed as being "knocked out" for extended periods of time without dealing with some of the more messy bodily functions that don't stop when you're drugged into a stupor. Hunger Games is a recent example.

People dying, too. Though to be fair, dramatic death scenes would get much less dramatic with all the biology connected to it.

I don't like her hair much, either. The curlier 'do was so pretty.

I hate when characters are knocked unconscious but suffer no after-effects at all. Also, parents who tell their kids to 'hurry or you'll miss the bus' or whatever and the kid leaves an untouched meal on their plate and runs off.

When nobody brushes their teeth after throwing up.

People who wear glasses and run into walls/doors without them. Really - really? They're not Mr. Magoo!!

Every fucking woman on tv ever (under the age of sixty) in fucking heels. STOP STOP STOP.

I've said this before, but the elves' hair in LotR/Hobbit. Or long, looses hair in a fight in general, or at least on archers. Ouch.

Non-functional armour. Either with boobs, or weird cutouts, or just not covering vital spots (I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy XII for an all-genders-have-shitty-armour version).

The way blades go ~shwing~ when drawn. They don't fucking do that. If they do, there is something seriously wrong with your weapon/scabbard.

Swords that might look ~cool~ but would be terribly balanced and useless in a fight.

Katana. Katana everywhere. Katana is best sword hurrdurr.

Science babble that even someone without much knowledge in the matter can see is bullshit. Especially if it's stuff that could be corrected by the authors with one single google search.

Terribly broken "insert language" by characters who are supposed to be native speakers of said language.
