Re: Is homophobia just another branch of misogyny
To begin with it sort of bugs me one would make a phobia about gay men about women. I mean, obviously there is some overlap, but that does not make it come from the same source.
I do not think homophobia is inherently present in straight people, and I think it's largely culturally dependent on culture, as the views of your own surroundings about gay people largely affect your own.
Objectively, a straight person has absolutely no reason to hate gay people, because it has nothing to do with them - if anything, it actually eliminates competition for potential partners.
Even if some people might feel naturally disgusted by gay sex, I never had the problems of gay people choosing to fornicate in my back yard, so you know, who cares?
I'm absolutely convinced it ties in both with an unfortunate religious tradition it being "sinful" and macho culture.
