idk if i'd agree with that, tbh. will is mentally unstable, avoids social interaction, and incapable of looking after himself independently.

but i don't know if i'd classify him as weak, delicate, or incapable of looking after himself in a physical situation (i.e. looking after himself in a fight or a hostage situation). which seems to be how fandom likes portraying him. the man might be sick in the mind, but he's hardly useless.

I don't think you're very far off the mark. He's written as hopelessly pathetic or total bad-ass, depending which is more convenient for the plot.

Exactly - and that sounds pretty useless to me, except for the fact that Hannibal gets someone to blame shit on.

yeah, but they aren't his only traits. will's also an incredible profiler, a competent teacher, a great pet-owner and boat mechanic, and was presumably a decent policeman back in the day. and the main reason he isn't capable of living independently seems to have more to do with his encephalitis destroying his brain (which hannibal has exacerbated) as opposed to his mental problems.

will has his fair share of issues, but if he was completely useless, there would be no show.

Agreed, except for the "incapable of looking after himself independently" point. He wasn't capable this season, but that's because of the encephalitis. Normally, I figured he was functional.
