You can definitely be put into a psych ward after speaking to the cops. All you have to do is say something that indicates you're wanting to hurt yourself and/or others. (Just having mental health issues is not enough.) They'd usually be required to get you into a ward to be evaluated, at the very least. And that's without supernatural or demonic influences.
"Sleepy Hollow" actually has a lot less plotholes than 90% of shows involving cops.
