I think she is a moron who steals videos from people on the internet and pretends she has played those games. I also think all of her 'good points' and arguments are things you could find in any freshman college course paper.

I'm not going to defend the first part (and I really don't care about her either way), but on the second, sometimes it doesn't matter that you're not saying something that no one has heard before, sometimes it helps just to be willing to try to reach different audiences.

That would be fine is she didn't lie, cherry pick information, or pretend that it is something other than what it is.

Like I said, I was only referring to your second point.

This might seem kind of out of nowhere but I'm kind of reminded of when people look at certain kinds of art and go "I could do that!" and all I can think is "but you didn't". It's not all about how many people are capable of doing something. It has to actually be done.

Hopefully someone better will show up to grab just as large an audience.

and yet people are still actively hostile to those arguments so it's not like it's so obvious as to be not worth talking about.

Because she acts like this is some kind of critical, genius endeavor. She did a kickstarter for it and her videos are the same stupid shit they were before she had money. Her in front of a blank background talking. There MAY be an occasional video game clip (that she stole), while using information that are either lies or cherry picked.

I think those are valid grounds for criticizing her, but I don't think that's the entire reason people are criticizing her. I think there are also people who are deeply and fundamentally antagonistic to the very idea that any of her arguments could conceivably be legitimate. That's not you, I know. But she could be making her arguments totally professionally and I think a lot of people would still be royally pissed at her. However much her arguments have been made before, they're still controversial, and not only controversial but drawn an outspokenly hostile reaction from some people (who are not you, your criticisms being legitimate and fair).

This is exactly how I feel about her. I don't really love her, but the responses she gets are soooo unwarranted, over-the-top, and usually miles besides the point. Oh, and misogynistic, vile, hateful crap.

Same here. Her analysis is more facile and less informed than I'd prefer; not horrible, just not up to what I'd like to see. But nothing, NOTHING justifies some of the blisteringly awful crap people say about her.

Agreed. And the fact that there are people acting like that just makes the whole situation worse for everyone. I disagree with a lot of the things she has to say, I think a lot of her arguments are poorly constructed, and obviously there's the thing about stealing video game footage and all, but I don't have the energy to criticize her when I know that people who see me criticizing will put me in the same category as people who think "lol cunt" is funny and/or a valid critique of her.

What do you mean? She stole footage of gameplay, or she watched other people's video commentary and parroted it?

She stole footage from people's Let's Plays.

Does it really matter if she got it from a Let's Play or recording it herself when it will look almost exactly the same either way? It's not like she's taking credit for the game itself, which is an actual work of intellectual property.

Thank you! I remember being really disillusioned and angry when I found out all the things you're mentioning in this comment thread, and it makes me mad how many people either ignore those things, or deny them, or act like they don't matter.

Got any evidence that she's stolen other people's game footage? I would honestly love to know how you know without any shadow of a doubt that she didn't record that footage herself.

As for how they know that she didn't record the videos herself, people are looking at things like scores, health meters, things that would be unlikely to match 100% if it was just a coincidence.
