Well, no one likes an ill-behaved child in the theater, but also no one likes some asshole leaving their phone on and answering calls loudly. Whether with or without kids there's a chance the audience will be unpleasant; but at least kids tend to be less jaded. I enjoy having some kids in the audience because they will laugh at the funny parts and gasp and the scary parts and get way into it, which I really enjoy. I DO think not wanting to go WITH kids, aka with kids in your party that you're responsible for, is different, since there's a level of responsibility there you might not want when you just want to see a movie.

Yes, this--does the OP think adults somehow are magically innocent of obnoxious, disruptive behavior in movies?

Sounds more like a case of they just don't like kids and don't want to spend time with them than just they interrupt the movie.

Yeah, I don't like seeing a movie with a lot of people whoever they are. The most disruptive people I've ever been in a movie with were three old ladies watching Iron Man 3. They loudly told each other who was on screen, spilled hot coffee on my neck and down the back of my shirt, then got bored and started loudly talking about their grandkids and where they were going to have lunch. I shushed them several times, openly asked them to be quiet twice, and fortunately the people in front of me left the showing halfway through after their phone rang so I could move.

Give me an over-excited kid any day.

I would have told a theater manager, especially after spilling coffee on you, jfc. Why was it that close to you.

You can have the asshole with the phone removed.

If it's a noisy kid, then you're just told to Deal With It, because it's a Kid's Movie. I have actually experienced this, and I'm not above tattling on someone having a phone out of worry.
