I prefer to sit at the bar at restaurants, or just go to a 21+ establishment, for similar reasons.

Do I mind kids as a whole? Nah. But sometimes they're loud and I just want to enjoy my dinner and beer (or movie!) in peace.

I like kids, but nobody wants to have to listen to them screaming in the middle of a movie/show/church service/dinner/etc. and that just seems to happen a lot :| it's the inconsiderate parents who won't remove their fussy kid who make me grind my teeth.

Every 21+ establishment I've ever been to, unfortunately, has had ear-splittingly loud music playing constantly, so that everyone in the place has to shout to be heard by people across the table, which makes it louder and more annoying than any one screaming baby could ever be.

Aw, that sucks! It think it depends on the place. There's a nice tavern upstate that I like because it's generally pretty quiet.
