I would have liked the romance better if it hadn't been a love triangle. Like if Katniss and Gale really were just friends, or if Peeta really had been acting. But no.

I felt like the love triangle was thrown in for the whole purpose of having a love triangle. Either one of your ideas would have been better.

Gale was originally going to be Katniss's cousin, but Suzanne Collins's publishers insisted on the love triangle to ride the "Twilight" wave.

To me, it didn't seem like a triangle at all. Katniss had feelings for both Gale and Peeta, but she wasn't 'in love' with either of them. It always felt like she was trapped by their emotions, having to deal with all this extra 'stuff' when her only concern was her family. I got that vibe off her a lot more than 'love'.

If it makes you feel better, it was never supposed to be a triangle in the first place.
