I just can't get into Dramione. I've never read a fic that made me ship it. It's okay as a background thing (like, there's a Snarry fic I like that briefly mentions Draco and Hermione are married). I much prefer Grape (fandom secrets' portmanteau for Granger/Snape). Or, Hermione/Luna because femslash.

But, like I said in thread last night, Ron/Hermione was pretty much the only canon pairing I liked, so when JKR said she didn't like that she put them together I was like :(.

I also felt Ginny and Harry's "romance' felt so forced. Like, all of a sudden he's got a monster in his chest that's hungry for Ginny's flesh? Ooookay. I only saw that coming because it was obvious Harry and her were endgame just because she was Ron's sister. I shipped Harry/Luna pretty hard so it was disappointment.

I like the idea of Dramione but I have yet to see a fic that wasn't terribly written and OOC.

That's strange to hear, actually, because Dramione looks like one of these pairings whose plausibility requires just about zero effort to prove. Unlike Grape or Drarry, it could easily happen in the actual canon.

The guy who referred to Hermione with a racial slur could easily hook up with her in canon? I guess if he wanted to spite his parents . . .

Even if he wanted to spite his parents, there is no way Hermione would be interested in the guy who hates who she is and bullies her best friend.

Really? He's a prejudiced bully of average intelligence and she's a smart, passionate woman who is both a member of the group he's prejudiced against and best friends with the person he bullies the most. Really don't see how it is plausible. I'm a firm believer that anything can be written if its written well, but it would take a lot of work to make Draco/Hermione work in my mind.

Hate!sex all over the goddamn place!

Oh, I'm all over hate sex (I have a weird thing for Harry/villain ships). But I just question the idea of it being plausible in canon. It absolutely can be written well, I just don't see it being easy in the way the commenter made it out to be.

Actually, wasn't Draco smart in the books? I though he was second in marks to Hermione. And, he did fix the Vanishing cabinet to bypass the wards at Hogwarts, a task that was likely extremely difficult and required precise spellwork.

I think it'd take more to make Hermione/Draco work than Harry/Draco, tbh. Harry is a lot more forgiving that Hermione is.

Okay, that makes sense. I was a little bit confused there. I mean, yay for shipping whatever, but it would actually take some work.

I would be confused, too.

Draco/Harry has more to recommend for it than Draco/Hermione, IMV.

true.

I didn't get the impression that she necessarily dislikes having put them together; more that now, looking back, she sees it as perhaps not being as good a match as she thought it would be when she was younger.

My goodness, that basically sounds like the exact same thing. But there's a difference, I swear! Nuance!

(Anonymous) 2014-02-08 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think her regret is that she felt it didn't really work with the story. As I recall, she said she put it in as a bit of wish fulfillment rather than any literary reason that served the story.

Quite frankly, I don't see anything wrong with that. Sure, you have to move the story along, but I don't think every single think you put in your story absolute has to server that.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I think I just got why I liked R/Hr (and why I dislike many canon ships and other stuff in the canon): they didn't have to be together, they weren't forced to act only because it was necessary to move the story.

My involvement with HP stopped at reading the books to the kids and watching the movies, but Harry/Luna (especially movie Luna) makes much more sense to me than H/G. There was 3x as much "chest-monster" for Cho.

Well I agree with your thoughts on Harry and Ginny. It's like all the way through the first five books Ginny is just Ron's sister and he barely notices her and then BAM! Chest monster!

The whole chest monster thing also makes me think of Aliens.

I never really cared for or understood Dramione either. I can't really ship Draco with anyone except maybe Harry, but that was always just a bit of fangirl LOL giggles for me.

I also liked Ron/Hermione and was a bit upset with the whole media "JKR Regrets Ron and Hermione; Should Have Been Harry and Hermione" spew. I mean, the way Ron and Hermione's relationship evolves is realistic and I understood where she was going with it, and to see her back track and say Harry was better really didn't sit well with me. But then the actual full interview came out and I kind of understood where JKR was coming from. It's not so much that Ron and Hermione are incompatible but they did bicker a lot, so chances are they would eventually have to go through counseling or sit down and really discuss their relationship with each other. And all she really says about Harry and Hermione is that she felt that when Ron left Harry and Hermione in book 7, she felt Steve Kloves did a good job at nodding toward the time alone Harry and Hermione had together. Perhaps they momentarily wonder if they have some kind of romantic feelings toward each other, but Hermione's mind is still stuck on Ron so no, nothing happens. Also, JKR and Emma Watson agree that Hermione loves that Ron can make her laugh.

I think people just blew things out of proportions. What I got out of the interview was that JKR wished she hadn't made Ron and Hermione's relationship seem so neat when probably things could have been a bit messier. But to be honest, with all that Ron and Hermione go through in the books, I think she did a really good job at fleshing out their relationship.

Unlike Harry and Ginny's, even though I did like it. I think when it came to Harry and Ginny's relationship I was always under the impression that JKR didn't think it was a big deal to go into Harry and Ginny's courtship, that subtle hints at it was good enough, because she wanted the books to be about Harry's adventures and the world he lives in and ultimately has to save. But again, just my opinion.

I wasn't much into the fandom but I kinda liked Harry/Luna too.
