You do realize that she never said anything about how Harry and Hermione should have got together, only about Ron and Hermione's relationship, right? It's not an either/or thing.

I'm sorry, this is incorrect. JK Rowling wrote the entire story with Harry/Ginny in mind. Her relevancy in the story was not "last minute" nor did she "never belong." She was the first Weasley character to appear and her ending up with Harry was foreshadowed from book 2. JKR may regret how she wrote the story now, but that does not add clues or hints that weren't there before last week.

I don't get why everyone is so upset. Relationships that involve people marrying high-school sweethearts almost always end badly. Why should Ron and Hermione's marriage be any different? Besides, Hermione is a serious high-flyer who will always keep pushing for information and Ron is a fairly lazy and traditional dude who seemed to be more keen on family life. That is the kind of marriage that makes divorce lawyers really rich. Harry's marriage seems unhealthy, he is desperate for family love and she is his hero-worshipper, but probably a bit more secure that Ron and Hermione's would be.

All I know is that it feels like the second coming of the HP ship wars and I am loving all of the tumblr posts of dead authors coming back to life and regretting the pairings they wrote.

I just can't get into Dramione. I've never read a fic that made me ship it. It's okay as a background thing (like, there's a Snarry fic I like that briefly mentions Draco and Hermione are married). I much prefer Grape (fandom secrets' portmanteau for Granger/Snape). Or, Hermione/Luna because femslash.

But, like I said in thread last night, Ron/Hermione was pretty much the only canon pairing I liked, so when JKR said she didn't like that she put them together I was like :(.

I also felt Ginny and Harry's "romance' felt so forced. Like, all of a sudden he's got a monster in his chest that's hungry for Ginny's flesh? Ooookay. I only saw that coming because it was obvious Harry and her were endgame just because she was Ron's sister. I shipped Harry/Luna pretty hard so it was disappointment.

Do you know what I want? Epic mid-life-crises fanfiction. Harry and Ginny get divorced due to incompatibility, and has an extramarital affair with Hermione. And Draco/Ginny JUST BECAUSE OTP4LAIF.

I'm finding that my reactions to this whole thing are really, really bizarre. Like, I was an H/Hr shipper. I loved digging for subtext and clues that they were actually destined to be together. So you'd think I'd be overjoyed to see JKR say that they might have been better together.

But I'm more "meh" and I find myself instead defending the canon pairings. I don't understand myself. :-/

I almost got in a really big argument with someone about this. WHICH IS ODD since I like Hermione/Ron but was never that invested in it. But I'm weirdly heartbroken over this revelation, hahaha. :(

I don't care what anyone says. My femslash OTP. And maybe they live with Ginny, who ends up married to Dean Thomas because let's be honest, Harry needs pretty extensive therapy before he's even near stable. And Ron needs to grow up and get over his inferiority complex he's ready for a serious relationship.

Honestly, all of the relationships at the end felt rushed. The only canon relationship that I liked was Ginny/Dean.

EH. Though I loved the books I was never really a part of the fandom, and thank god I missed out on the shipping drama. But, I can't help but think that J.K Rowling knew how rabid some shippers were and this was some attempt to cause drama again. Most fandoms get most worked up over shipwars (stupid but that's how it is in every fandom I'm in).

I can't think of any other good reason why she would take a pairing that the general audience like and rooted for, and say she regretted it.

And I kinda hate pushing towards Harry/Hermione because that was ONE REALLY GOOD EXAMPLE of how a boy and girl could be really close friends without it ever having to be romantic. It was platonic and beautiful.

Harry/Ginny is not baseless, but I never really cared much about their relationship. Completely removed from fandom influence I saw Hermione/Ron coming a mile away, but I didn't really realize Harry/Ginny until much later and even then I never really felt the chemistry. If I were Rowling I'd regret that one which seemed based on Ginny being so perfect and also a Weasley so Harry could be a part of that big family. At least with Ron/Hermione they had like a 6 year friendship where they really got to know each other.

I got that she regretted putting Hermione with Ron, as she thinks it would have been an unhealthy relationship. But I don't recall anything quoting her as actually saying that she thinks she should have had Hermione end up with Harry - that was just the implication every single person reporting the interview threw in because he was the only other male lead/"possible" love interest.

But then, it is highly likely I missed something. Did JKR every say, directly, that she thinks Hermione should have ended up with Harry?

You know, as much as I like Harry/Hermione and feel Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione don't work (for reasons of writing)... I am so over all this crap.

You know what? I find shipping non-canon comfortable! It's not as restrictive as shipping canon! I wouldn't want JKR to go back and rewrite it it, because I really am rather cynical about her romance writing on a whole and think she'd ruin Harry/Hermione as she failed to make Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione convincing for me.
