I want Clara to leave, in some tasteful fashion. I don't dislike her, I'm just not very interested in her.

Then I want the Doctor to happen across Ace McShane, who used to be a crazy, explosion-happy teenage girl who ran around with him when he had a hat and a Scottish brogue. He's delighted to see her again, and pleased to discover that she's reached middle age with no signs of growing up. She'd be entirely happy to drop everything in her life and run off with him again, except for two things: her children.

She has a boy and a girl, both teenagers, neither of whom has ever set foot in a schoolroom. They're dangerously smart and impressively impulsive, with some of their mom's habits, but their own individual styles. They have enough sibling rivalry to be entertaining, and occasionally enough to almost get them both killed.

The Doctor, of course, is happy to bring them along too.

I am bored with the Lonely God being the linchpin of existence and kissing everyone all the time. I'd like the next series to be about these two weird kids discovering the wonder and danger of the greater universe, along with their badass punk-as-fuck mother and the best crazy grandpa that ever there was.

I gave up un NuWho a while ago, but I would watch the shit out of that.

...this would get me to start watching again. Absolutely. Whoever takes over next, BRING BACK ACE PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

(Not fussy on the kids, but eh.)

Ace is the best and I'll fight any mug in the joint who says different.

I like the idea of her having kids, because I think the show could use some kids and I LOVE the idea of a mom on TV who's still crazy and rebellious and having adventures, but also taking her responsibilities as a parent seriously. Just that her idea of parental responsibility totally includes ditching everything to run off with a madman in a blue box again.

Basically a TV mom who's not such a freaking MOM all the time, you know?

Hmmm, but didn't they already cover that ground with The Sarah Jane Adventures?

Personally, I'd love to see a do-over of "School Reunion" without the schmoop and goop and sappy garbage, just lots of Ace blowing stuff up and "the Professor" tsk-tsking at her with a glint in his eye......

DA

they totally did in SJA--one reason why I love it, despite the eye-rolling treatment SJ initially got in School Reunion

...not to say that it wouldn't be welcome to also have Ace as the ultimate Cool Mom!

What eye-rolling treatment SJ got in the School Reunion? You mean when she was being catty at Rose? That was kinda lame.

Yeah that and in general the silly idea that the Doctor was Sarah's whole life and she just stagnated when he left...when lbr, she woulda missed him a lot but still gone straight back to being an ace reporter leaving no stone unturned.

merciful heavens child, this glory will never happen but can you write it???

(Anonymous) 2014-02-08 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I would watch this in a goddamn heartbeat. And hey, maybe Ace could meet up with an old flame along the road. Like, for a random example, Shou Yuing? And then she could introduce her kids to this awesome lady who bonded with her over explosives back in the day.

I am so on board with that idea. Ace never met a girl on that show she didn't flirt with. (And for some reason, the guys she flirted with all turned out to be goddamned fascists. Stick with the girls, Ace, your taste in men is dubious.)

Ace never met a girl on that show she didn't flirt with act friendly towards.

You're stretching it a bit thin there IMO. Be careful it doesn't break and snap back on your fingers. Although in today's world, oftentimes saying more than two words to a stranger, or even looking at them, is more often than not misconstrued as flirting, which I find to be sad and unfortunate.

Given what I've seen in DW interviews, I'd love to see Sophie Aldred as a mad adventurer mother type of character, better yet, the mad adventurer mother Dorothy "Ace" McShane.
