Re: Stupidest Thing You've Ever Hear Out of a Doctor

The first rheumatologist I saw was this creepy old guy who basically took my word for it that I have fibromyalgia and handed me a sample of Lyrica with instructions to take "half." Lyrica comes in capsules so that's pretty much impossible. He was also generally inappropriate in ways I don't really want to get into, so I never went back after the first visit.

The second rheumatologist I saw told me that I have all the symptoms of fibromyalgia, but I couldn't possibly have fibromyalgia because she personally had never seen it before in someone so young. So she didn't know what I had, but it couldn't have possibly been fibro because only middle-aged women get that. Luckily though she referred me to my current doctor, who politely informed me that that was a load of bullshit.

Half a capsule! That's kind of hilarious.

Sadly, some doctors don't know the exact dosage form of medications (tablets, capsules, etc) so I've often seen doctors trying to prescribe half a capsule.

Before I got diagnosed with fibro, I had an ER doctor say to me, "Oh are you sure you didn't just pull a muscle?"

Yes, I pulled a muscle. For four years straight. All over my body. :|

Sadly that doesn't surprise me. Fibro seems to bring out the dumb in people for some reason. The first specialist I went to told me that he didn't see anything wrong with me, so I might "just have to live with" the pain for the rest of my life. I was 18. He couldn't figure out why I burst into tears in his office.
