Ah, a Death Note secret. Takes me back to the golden LJ days of FS, when every post had secrets for miles and the fucked-up ones were all mixed up with the regular ones and putting "I ship it" secrets in the failbar (did we even have a name for it back then!?) was a super controversial decision. :')

Only because people compared me to him in a lot of "what character am I like?" memes when that fandom was big. I never understood that! I do like goggles and stripes and video games, but there's not much else to go on with him, really.

The Matt obsession boggled me. He's not even a real character, he's background fodder in like a total of five panels, in which he is simply a bishounen hanging out with Mello. Which I know if more than enough to merit slash, but seriously. lol

I think he just looked really unique and distinctive for an extra, and people didn't want him to go to waste? Dunno, man.

Honestly, I thought the whole phenomenon was kind of neat! I like it when people appreciate weird details and background characters.

I was in the DN fandom back in the day, and I'm pretty sure there was quite a bit of Ryuk/Light. Most of it non-con, but hey. At least Ryuk is... humanoid, so it's not really bestiality. I think. If you've seen the original concept art of Ryuk, he was supposed to be hot at one point (but apparently, no joke, they didn't want him to upstage Light's hotness)

I also, on a side note, don't really understand the "too arrogant to be sexual" argument. I mean, sexuality is kind of independent of ego, isn't it? Granted, I don't see Light as very sexual per se, but I like the idea of reading him as gay.

To me he always read sexually indifferent; like he probably had the occasional urge but generally considered sex beneath him/a waste of his time/intellect/energy, unless it was as a tool to get some poor enamored shmuck to do his bidding and furthered his chessmaster ambitions.

I never got the feeling that Light looked at the Shinigami as even close to being equal, more like tools? I don't think it's his arrogance that gets in the way, he just don't have no time for fucking around when there's a world to be cleansed and a superdetective to be fooled.

I'm not a shipper by any means, but I don't think he'd fuck anyone but L and even then it would have been some ploy to prove how much he's not Kira.

I don't think he looked at anyone he could manipulate as an equal. For that reason, I don't think he had any respect for Rem.

Ryuk, on the other hand, he couldn't really manipulate (easily). I think he actually told Ryuk he respected him at one point because Ryuk made it so clear he wouldn't get involved, and wouldn't budge from that stance. I always did like the interpretation that Ryuk genuinely liked Light, though, it was more of a "nothing personal" thing when he killed him.

(that being said, I also don't think he'd fuck anyone but L, unless he was manipulating someone into loving him - read: Misa, Takada and Mikami)

I don't think Kira saw anyone as an actual living feeling being, period. I think he only had a superficial capacity for either empathy or sympathy. Which makes his viewing anyone as his "equal" pretty much impossible, simply because he doesn't view anyone the way he views himself.

That being said, I think that respect is another matter and that he probably did respect L and the Shinigami.

This was MY SHIP back in the DN days. It's always been slightly shameful because of the non-human aspect, but idk they had a good dynamic and the best kind porn is the kind that turns you on AND you can laugh at.
