I know it happens a lot, but I just don't understand how it works. Like, I get it when people have, say, a torture/rape kink which they enjoy in fic but which (understandably) horrifies them IRL. It is because in fic, the horrifying element - a living person being actually hurt - is removed.

But with scat fic? What is it that is removed? What makes it disgusting IRL that is absent in works of fiction?

Actual, tangible shit. That smells and is full of germs, etc.

Yeah, but why would a description of smelly shit attract anyone who is repulsed by the smell IRL???

I don't know how to explain it or why it happens, but I"m that way with sex. Love it in fic. More descriptions the better. Disgusted by it in real life and do not want anything to do with it. Fantasy and kinks are weird.

I guess I shall just accept it as one of the many facets of the irrational thingy that is human nature, then

I'm actually move repulsed by descriptions of shit in fic than I am by shit in real life, so who knows. It's just one of those weird brain things.

I'm the same way. Poop IRL is gross, but it's also just one of those things you have to deal with, especially if you have pets or kids or you've had to care for a very ill or elderly person. Reading about it, especially in connection with sexy-times, seems like the least appealing thing ever, but then, it's not my kink.

omg I just about pissed myself laughing at this comment LOL "a description of smelly shit" hahaha I am dying!

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't it just be the same as any other kink people like in fic/fantasy only? I don't see how it's any different. Some things are gross in real life but enjoyable in fantasy.

It depends on what OP finds interesting about scat fic. They may only be interested in how it feels 'to go' while being grossed out by poop itself. Or maybe the unsanitary nature disgusts them--in fiction you don't have to worry about infections.

Yep, that sounds reasonable. Thanks. I'd ask somebody who actually enjoys the kink, of course, but unfortunately I've no idea which one of my acquaintances is the right person to turn to...

I dunno, I like watersports in fic but I have been peed on before and it was just disgusting. Things in fic are different than things irl.

The potential for spreading disease? (And the annoying clean-up?)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-11 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Super late but OP here. Other people have pretty much covered it, but the appeal in fic is tied to sensation, loss of control, humiliation and/or having complete trust in someone. The real-life logistics of mess and smell are more than enough to put me off.
