I really don't understand this. Have the "normal" bookstores around you not different sections divided in: books for kids, books for adolescents, adult books like novels, classics etc., self-help books, mangas and so on?

They do, but like I said in the above comment, they are making the classics, non-fiction and adult sections smaller to make more room for YA and best-sellers and it's really disheartening.

I didn't realise this was such a big trend (in the US, I assume?)

Eventually those young adults will grow up and want more. Or is it adults only buying YA novels?

Western Europe actually.

I've seen people of all ages buying YA. Lots of young adults as well as adults. That alone doesn't bother me, I'm just sad that stores cater to them and them only because it's trendy or whatever.
