Yeah, being a terrible person is much more "authentic".

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Because you have never ever had a thought or made a comment that anyone would find offense or mean.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't broadcast them on fucking Twitter. See the distinction?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
+1

Everyone has rude thoughts sometime. But sharing those with the whole world via Twitter? No.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you are authentically a terrible person, why would you pretend otherwise? I certainly wouldn't. Besides, we must have a different threshold for terrible, because none of those tweets would register as particularly noteworthy with the people I know.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Not being a cowardly tool who is so beaten down by the trolls of the world that you're afraid to say anything against the vocal majority...

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
It's only 'terrible' because he's a celebrity. But if just one of your friends were saying stuff like that nobody would bat an eyelash. True, celebs should present themselves better but at the end of the day they are still humans. I prefer authenticity to fake and polished. Not that I agree with the stuff he says, but he has the right to say stuff and have opinions.

Funny how so many people claim to be pro-freedom of speech and then get butthurt about the things people say.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say anything you want without people getting pissed at you. It means you can say a hell of a lot of things without getting arrested.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:33 am (UTC)(link)

speak for yourself.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
You're stupid. Freedom of speech is a legal concept, not something that exempts you from taking some motherfucking responsibility for your words and the effect it has on others.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Freedom of speech" doesn't mean "no one can ever express disagreement with, get upset with, or dislike the things that someone else says." All it means is that the government cannot prevent a person from or prosecute a person for speaking her/his mind. And even that has limits (fighting words, obscenity, etc etc).

Jared Padelecki has the right to say what he wants on his Twitter. Other people have the right to think and to say that he's an asshole for it, and even to refuse to associate with him.

How about I turn your statement around on you? Funny how so many people claim to be pro-freedom of speech and then claim that any speech expressing a negative opinion of a statement is wrong.

Just clarify, but what actually falls under the US legal system definition of hate speech is very small. I believe only direct threats towards or encouraging violence towards groups covered by hate speech are punishable.

I don't think anon above is just talking about hate speech.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
There's shouting "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater when there isn't one - something that could cause people to panic and get someone hurt.

There is inciting violence (which doesn't necessarily always fall under hate speech).

There is defamation, slander, and libel.

There is perjury.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
THIS JUST IN, THE WORLD IS NOT THE USA

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
*faints*

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I prefer authenticity to fake and polished.

Authenticity and niceness are not mutually exclusive concepts.

It's funny how other celebrities manage to not be raging assholes on their twitter. I guess they aren't being "authentic" enough though. *rolls eyes*

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you not have friends? Because there's always a storm when some halfwit with an edgy opinion speaks up on the internet.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Saying shit you don't like now grants the moniker of "terrible person"? Damn! What sort of level do you reserve to those who beat up the elderly, or kill innocents? "Meanies"?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 02:05 am (UTC)(link)

Being hurtful and disrespectful about serious issues does, actually, earn you that moniker. I'm not calling anyone a terrible person for liking season 4 of Community.
I call those people abusive violent criminals and murderers.
... What exactly was your point?????
