Also, you know the bit about the soldier choosing the eldest princess that struck me as Fridge Logic? Picking the eldest means he will also get the throne when the king dies. Sure, he'll probably only be her consort... but hey! Did anyone else ever see that one as well?

Not me. I was too peeved he picked the eldest, but that is a good point.
