The best thing would be to find a friendly teacher willing to give you a few lessons on an instrument so that you can a) decide if it's really for you and b) get a feel for what you really want in an instrument. Because the most attractive instrument aesthetically might be not the best for the sound you want, or the type of pieces you want to play; ideally, you could get somebody in the know to go shopping with you so that you get the instrument best for you to play and not the best one that'll look great hanging on your wall and do wonders for the salesperson's commission.
