After S3 I was left with the feeling that there was no way that Sherlock wasn't in love with John. I just could not interpet it any other way. I know me and my shipper goggles are inclined to think that way but even my (straight, male) co worker said (completely unaided by me) that he felt like Sherlock was in love with John and that he thinks and hopes the show will go there by the end of its run.

And I know its delusional to hope that Johnlock could be endgame, but I still hope. This show has felt like the closest possibility that a queer relationship could move from subtext into actual maintext and, as someone who identifies as queer, I can only hope that it does. I know that at the end of the day its 90% that I'm being queer baited but I feel like there is still that chance that maybe I'm not.

Also some of the meta on this subject is brilliant (some of it is also completely delusional).

Just my thoughts anyway, I get what you're saying OP and I agree that some fans are just plain delusional but I still have hope that Johnlock will be canon (and feel for once that it could be likely eventually).

I'm with you on thinking Sherlock is in love with John, in some form. Sherlock has never had to deal with emotions like this before and he has literally vowed to protect John. I never saw it in the first two series but it stood out in series 3 when Sherlock resurrected himself from the gunshot wound because of John, and then killed Magnussen for him (the look he gave john said it all)

Call be delusional but this is what I think. I don't believe it will be endgame, nor do I think Sherlock even realises his own feelings. And I also don't think John will ever reciprocate.

They're going to take those emotions for John and have him end up feeling them for a woman, just like a classic "growing up" scenario... John will be literally just the "adolescent" phase in his emotional development.

Urgh so much hate for that scenario. I would rage so hard if you're right.

Well get ready 2 rage, because it seems pretty obvious to me that there heading in that direction.

ugh, _they're_.

I too hate this scenario, but I think you're right. Based on what he did with Amy & Rory in Who and John & Mary in Sherlock, I get the impression Moffat is one of those people who thinks you can only be considered an adult if you're married with children. Any other lifestyle, single or in other kinds of relationships, is just biding your time until you 'grow up'. He could have left those relationships as just romantic partnerships, but no, they had to get married. And there had to be an immediate baby.

So I imagine S4 will have John, Mary & baby while Sherlock falls for Molly and oh, look, another wedding & baby. I'd hate it and quit watching in disgust by that point, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm not looking for Johnlock to happen, but I'd be really happy if Moffat would just wrap his head around the idea that marriage+baby is not the goal of everyone these days, gay or straight. There are plenty of other scenarios people enjoy. It's not 1895.

but it's Moffat we're talking about, so that's not going to happen.
