I'm not sure if you find it problematic, but the fact that who's labelled "adorable" (ie pretty, cute), and who's "a BAMF" (ie strong) gets turned into who does what to who, highlights the heteronormative sexist nature of most fangirl slash.

Doo-doop, ba doobie da ba, doo-doop, ba doobie da ba, doo-doop, ba doobie da ba dooooo!

see, I like bottom!John (in John and Sherlock) and I consider him to be both adorable AND BAMF

Congratulations.

But John is short! So I guess that makes it two out of three.

OP.

I gave up on shipping years ago because of this and it's refreshing to see in this thread that smut is becoming more versatile then I thought it was. Back in 2006-2008 when I was a more active shipper, it really got on my nerves that it was so "they're more girly so they have to bottom and they're more manly so they have to top, no exceptions."

lmao! Because women are adorable and men are BAMFs? Bullshit. Your comment highlights the way you apply stereotypes to the concepts of male and female.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
you don't have to agree with the stereotypes to notice that they're present

not saying i agree with AYRT but this argument is kinda BS

ia

I hate this argument and I think it's bullshit. Not only it equates femaleness with being adorable, but it also equates bottoming with being a woman. What OP thinks is what other people think is really what they think and project onto others. When I see an adorable man, no matter what sexual position he's in, my thought isn't "what a woman!".
