I'm not a shipper but I genuinely thought they were going for canon johnlock after that terrible Irene Adler episode in series 2, or at the very least make it one-sided. Like, how the fuck else are you supposed to interpret that "I'm not gay" "Well I am and look at us now" (or however it went) part? It seemed obvious, it was basically straight up saying "hey so this dude has a thing for Sherlock".

Then I heard something about them sort of treating slash fangirls as crazy and delusional (although this could be a typical fandom overreaction) and I'm like what the fuck are these guys playing at? You can't have it both ways. Either go full homo or drop it. I usually cringe at the term "queerbaiting" because 99% of the time it's just like "God how dare they not write my OTP fucking? I have to find a way to turn this in to a social justice issue!". But this? THIS is queerbaiting to an insane degree, no doubt about it.

Sorry, there's probably been like a million in depth posts about this but I'm not in the fandom.

I've actually seen a tweet where one of the producers calls people who think John likes Sherlock as more than a friend "delusional". So, not it's not fan overreaction.

I dunno about the producers but I think it was Gatiss' husband who tweeted that.

Either go full homo or drop it.

Perfect phrasing. All this "Ha ha they might be gay for each other" and "Laugh and point at the delusional fans that we are deliberately baiting" is getting on my last nerve. Why does Ms. Hudson have to bring up that she thinks John is gay in every season? Why did they have to have a scene with awkward long pauses where the normal flow of that kind of conversation would end with "I love yous."

Yes, and they're beginning to be called out on it by at least one (American) media outlet - can't remember which right now.
