This is why I can't be in slash fandoms anymore. It's just not worth the sanity-draining aspects of being around fans who insist there is ONE TRUE way to see it, with all these little clues hidden that they must find, and anyone who doesn't want to go that route should probably be bulldozed over and ignored, if not outright mocked.

I even like some of the pairings, just can't be around that anymore. Life's too short.

IKR? Why can't they just accept the fact that most people don't want to watch that stuff so no one is ever going to put it on TV or in mainstream films?

Yes, let's paint it as homophobic persecution, instead of read what AYRT actually wrote and face the fact that a lot of shippers are bullies?

That's not a slash fandom thing though, it's a shipping thing in general. Look at the Zutara example posted above.

It's pretty funny when it happens in a fandom for something with two main rival ships. You've got half the fandom screaming about how character A and character B are so OBVIOUSLY in love and how it's the most canon ship in the world and the other half screaming about how A clearly only cares about character C and 'haha I feel sorry for all those morons who ship A/B because that shit will never be canon!'

Like, you're both fucking morons, you're getting played like a fiddle so the creators can maximise their profits.

"you're getting played like a fiddle so the creators can maximise their profits"

ayup - case in point, Sherlock.

I stopped watching Teen Wolf and utterly dropped the fandom because of this. (Well, plus the increasingly poor writing and the suspiciously high mortality rate of anyone who wasn't a white guy.) The situation with Sterek is so bad that when I first heard about the show, I thought the main character was literally a dude named Sterek. When I found out it was a ship, I was like "oh cool, I can get behind a rivals-to-friends ship, I dig those". But then I watched the actual show and. What. I. What. Even coming into the show primed to look for subtext, I saw nothing but a few angry close-up arguments, the kind of stuff that might get you a minor shipping base in another fandom. I ended up shipping pretty much everything BUT Sterek. And fans are claiming it's basically canon! I'm just. Why do people. :(
