The only halfway subversive thing this incarnation of SH is going to do is have him end up with a woman at the end, which of course isn't actually subversive at all.

You know I quite liked the little nod to acd canon with the bit about the beehives in the Sussex cottage she bought but I never thought about it being a nod to endgame Janine/Sherlock....it makes me sad to admit I think that its quite likely.

The series is not going to end with strong hints of Sherlock/John, it's going to end with strong hints of Sherlock/Molly.

The whole 'shy girl pines after the hero who doesn't know she's alive until one day he realizes she was there for him all along and falls in love with her' is such a tired old cliche. So, yes, you're absolutely correct. That's how it will end.
