I know this is probably a troll, but I feel so indifferent to her acting. She's just kinda... there.

I find her charming. I agree that her acting is nothing stellar, but I don't particularly need stellar. I just need enjoyable and charming, which I think she is.

LOL, wait until Cumberbatch's Turing movie comes out and watch how many fangirls will be writing his character together with hers. (squick)

I completely agree, anon. She's probably a very nice person and everything, but she's not a noticeably good actor and she doesn't even make good eye candy.

She's famous because Bend It Like Beckham was a surprise breakout hit, and we love it when surprise breakout hits produce new rising young stars. So the industry had a choice of two girls to make a star, and... well, we all kind of knew it was never going to be Parminder Nagra. Sure, she's hugely talented, gave a nuanced and human performance that carried that film, and is stunningly beautiful, but c'mon. She's not white. How the world works is not a secret.

Not that that's Kiera Knightley's fault. She just happened to be in the right place at the right time, and be the right color. She isn't responsible for the fact that show business is a really unfair line of work, but she also isn't very interesting as an actor.

I agree, but I don't know why you singled out her in particular. Personally, I have a hard time understanding the appeal of most actors. In the U.S., at least, it seems to be more about looking the part than playing the part, and I can't even think of an example of a really good actor or actress off the top of my head.

I share your opinion. I've never gotten how she lands big roles, either, her acting is just meh at best. I suspect it's due to her looks and if she were thirty pounds heavier, she wouldn't have a career at all.

I really like her as Elizabeth in POTC and Jules in Bend It Like Beckham but I have a tough time with her in other roles. It seems like she's really focused on how she holds her jaw and her body (like how she tucks her elbows behind her waist) and it takes me out.

Come on. She might not be your cup of tea, but you can't deny that she's very conventionally attractive. Her acting is pretty uninspired, but no worse than dozens of other actors.

I think she's pretty. Sometimes her acting works for me and sometimes it doesn't, but I have nothing against her and think she can be pretty cool at times. People have different opinions. There are plenty of celebs I dislike, but I think it's worse to be like, "Ugh, GROSS!" about people (even celebs) than it is to have, you know, OPINIONS that you don't have to broadcast. She's still a real person.

I generally try to keep a lid on my thoughts regarding Kiera Knightley considering a) if you can't say anything nice etc, and b) it's not like she knows/cares about my opinion. But since this secret exists...

I honestly can't stand her acting. She seems a nice person, and more grounded than most actresses her age, but - geez, she's terrible! She has no range as an actress. NONE! I've only ever seen her play one character, with the same droll, airy, nasal voice, the same pouty-lip expression, the same mannerisms and speech patterns. It drives me NUTS.

Elizabeth Swan, Bend It Like Beckham girl, Elizabeth Bennett, Lara in "Doctor Zhivago", The Duchess - regardless of the variation in the writing SHE MAKES THEM ALL THE SAME BLOODY CHARACTER.

What really ticks me off is that now I actively avoid films she's in just to spare myself and her fans from complaining, but I would LOVE to watch "Anna Karenina" and "Atonement", only I can't because I know she would grate endlessly on my nerves.

All that said, she's still wealthy and successful so she must be doing something right.

As with a lot of opinions, I am very in the camp of "I can kinda see what you're saying... but it still fails to bother me" about her acting.

Your opinion on her looks is your opinion though. I think she's pretty.

Clearly many disagree. I can see how she could be a Marmite taste though.
