I don't see why heroes having a bit of a darker (and sending criminals to jail isn't even a 'dark' thing to do ffs) side is so scary to creators. I mean, people tend to like it, even, so what's the big deal?

I'm not going to tell you not to be a book-purist, but I don't think that death counts as fridging. It wasn't particularly motivating, it had another reason in-story (war sucks, period medicine sucked), and it had another reason out-of-story (they wanted to get rid of the extra character to return the main character to having one true friend).

Hey, OP! I read that book in high school! I remember how gritty it really got, with the way the author described the main character's trials and tribulations until he finally got one better on Madec.

The teacher made a pretty good point about how some people want the thrill of the hunt so badly they'll go to great lengths to be able to hunt other human beings.

Team fic ftw! \o/ I was never into Sam/Jack and the only way I could see that working was if it was part of a whole OT4 situation. It'd be interesting to re-watch and see what's changed.

I barely remember the english dub, but iirc in the original non-dubbed anime, they had more moments. Like when Rei consoled Usagi in the third season when Chibi Usa got turned into the dark lady and so on. I DO remember the english dub censoring a lot of stuff.
