I thought Basil Rathbone looked as much like the classic Sidney Paget depiction of Holmes as any actor ever did.

Too bad his films didn't try to come closer to the books. (The Nigel Bruce issue can be left for another thread.)

Disagree. His nose was quite thick. Brett, when younger (and I note the pic the OP uses is him old and his face swollen by heart disease) looked much more like Paget's illustrations. Not that Paget is the only illustrator.
