Not OP but, as someone who too loved Series 3 aside from the Mary-plots, I can definitely see why others don't like it and want something that's more focused on mysteries and investigations - if that's the case they should watch Elementary.

I love Sherlock because, as Mofftiss have said, it's not a detective show. It's a show about a detective. It always has been. The mysteries have always been second to whatever relationship drama is going on, whether it's John and Sherlock or Sherlock and Irene or John and Mary or Sherlock and Moriarty. This show is no where near as intelligent as people make out. It's a glorified soap opera - and I personally enjoy that. Does suck for people who don't but, as I said, there are other options and better mystery shows.

It's like Downton Abbey - nobody ever told me it was just a tricked out prime time soap.

That's not the tune they were singing in the interviews for series 1 though. I don't fault them for knowing which side their bread is buttered on, but even a shred of integrity would have been nice.
