I agree Johnlock isn’t going to happen, but IMO the avid 'Johnlock will be canon' set are far outpaced in the nutty race by the people who keep twisting themselves into knots to justify what happened in HLV. That's where I've encountered the most amount of loony. It's like they feel they can't like the season unless they can continue to believe that Sherlock & Mary didn't do something that really wasn't morally justifiable.

In their minds it’s perfectly ok to shoot someone so he doesn’t tell your husband about your past. It is also ok to shoot someone because they’re a blackmailer. Silly me, thinking the standard for deadly force is that your life, or someone else’s, is in imminent danger. Not danger of being embarrassed or having your past revealed, but danger of being killed or at least suffering grievous physical injury at the moment.

I have seen people seriously argue that shooting CAM was the right thing to do because, well, he was a dick. Or because he’d do worse stuff in the future so it was good to get rid of him before he really went off the rails. Think of all the crime we wouldn't have if we made it official policy to kill all the jerks and anyone who might do something bad in the future.

And it was fine for Mary to shoot Sherlock because she loves John so much she just couldn’t bear to lose him. See, it’s romantic. And hey, she totally didn't want him to die because she shot him in the wrong spot. WTF? Yeah, if I don't want someone to die I shoot them in the wrong spot instead of just not shooting them at all. And I don't know about you, but what I really look for in a mate is someone who'll shoot my best friend so I don't find out they used to kill people. That's some true love right there.

This isn’t everyone who liked the season, and I don’t really think these people believe it’s ok to shoot someone under these circumstances IRL (at least, I hope they don’t). But these justifications drive me nuts. The people who aren’t able to admit that what Sherlock & Mary did was not justifiable, morally or legally, are in a far nuttier place to me than the Johnlock people.

It’s possible to like characters who do horrible things. I still like Walter White, but there’s no way in hell I could defend what he did and I’m not going to try. Like the season, like Sherlock & Mary, but please stop insisting that they did the right thing, the just thing, the only thing they could do by killing someone who wasn’t about to kill them.

Yeah, those would be the people who hate slash and like watching real life heterosexual cohabitants cohabiting onscreen, too.

Honestly, by the third episode the show had so thoroughly detached from any notion of reality that I felt comfortable rooting for Mary. I had really enjoyed her character before then, and everything was so fucking absurd anyway, that sure, why the hell not? Repercussions are for sissies. Go balls out, Mary. Shoot everyone. It'll all be better at the end of the episode.

I was also just excited to see Sherlock face something like a consequence, even if it was immediately taken back.
