I don't agree because if you are a contributer to fandom art/fic/meta or whatever then you've already opened the door to drama whether you intended to or not.

Usually people have their own corner of fandom with people who like the same characters or ships and are content to mind their own buisness, but then some outsider notices and decides to rain on the whole fucking parade. In these cases the hate comes to people who were doing their own thing.

It's even worst in more close-knit fandoms. I've had scenarios where one group was circulating private messages mocking the stuff that was said by other people in the fandom. BNF's who write character bashing meta and have blind followers spread it to troll fans of said character. I've had fanfic writer friends get hate for the ships they wrote about. Yeah, one hater or anon hate is expected in any fandom but a lot of this stuff is from people you know in fandom or it's constant. We go to fandom to relax and talk to people who like the same stuff, yet having to deal with the hate and drama takes away from that.

So what are we supposed to do? Should we all just leave fandom when the hate comes to us unprovoked? That doesn't seem very fair.
