I barely remember the english dub, but iirc in the original non-dubbed anime, they had more moments. Like when Rei consoled Usagi in the third season when Chibi Usa got turned into the dark lady and so on. I DO remember the english dub censoring a lot of stuff.

The dub had good points, I liked the music! Serena's voice made me bonkers though, it was just weirdly off? She always sounded like a joke, like the person doing her voice didnt like her and was reading the lines in a mocking tone, she sounded REALLY doofy. And I know she IS doofy but it was distracting even when I was a kid.
Back on topic though Mars/moon best friendship! I love them both

I finally watched the subs of the Dark Kingdom arc recently, and I was shocked by how flat the Silver Crystal revelation scene was without "My Only Love" under it. The Japanese music was.... eh... just kinda... there. My experience has generally gone the other way: the Japanese music in the S arc, for instance, is way better than the dub.

I don't agree the Silver Crystal revelation scene was flat in the Japanese version. The English dub took away a LOT from the preceding scenes and changed the conversation between Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon so that everything ended up having its impact during "My Only Love."

I'm not a sub whore by any means, but I think the Japanese version made a lot more sense in the build-up. Usagi was putting the pieces together about Mamoru being Tuxedo Mask, and there wasn't even mention of Mamoru seeking a moon princess. By the time they revealed themselves to each other, their feelings were real, Tuxedo Mask's devotion didn't change and he pointed that out to her, instead of making her blush with talk about how he needs the crystals to find a princess.

I do enjoy the song "My Only Love" but I kind of feel like it was thrown in there to make up for what was lost with all of the changed lines.

I just remember coming away from the dub not liking the other senshi all that much, just because of how absurdly mean they were to Serena at times.
I think it got better later on, but I felt like they were pretty shitty friends early in the series.

Which is a shame, because I really like the connection they have in the original version. And I didn't get to see that until way later on.

That's because the dub got the inner senshi COMPLETELY WRONG, in particular Rei.

One of the reasons I ended up ditching the dub completely was when I started watching the original, I noticed differences that made the senshi seem really mean in the dub. Rei and Usagi's friendship was really important, and Usagi trusted Rei more then anyone. They fought, yes, but it was not at all how the dub portrayed it.

Serena and Rei's friendship fights were one of my favorite parts of the show too. I liked watching the girls be girls. And I like the sparkly battle sequences... oh and when everyone time traveled to Neo-Tokyo... I have a lot of love for Sailor Moon.

Even though anime Rei is so so so different than manga Rei, I still love her and her stubbornness. She's much more of a spitfire and I still have a soft spot for her and Chad together.

Original Japanese has them dying a lot more. Naturally, this is censored out in English to the point that, combined with the shapeshifting of the new three, Sailor Stars was nixed in America.
