I loved the Sami wank on tumblr. Especially since an actual Sami reacted to it and said: "hey, please stop confusing us with the Inuit", after which hell broke loose again, and the Sami were now turned into white oppressors.

They are? Because I'm still seeing "Sami are oppressed not-white people". I don't know much about the argument or the Sami people so I mostly stay out of it.

Yes, exactly.

As far as I understand this insanity:

-Tumblr decides the Sami are the original Scandinavian Poc.
-Actual Sami find out about it, react, and ask to please use them as fodder in the argument, because they're wrongly representing their culture
-Sami is now accused of white privilege

Ladies and gentlemen, tumblr activists: shaming actual cultural minorities for not agreeing with their insanity.

It's because tumblr doesn't seem to grasp the concept that there are white minorities in this world.

And then you have all the people that rage about an Irish person in the 1860s being a PRIVELEGED! PERSON! Er, no, the Irish were pretty damn persecuted. Just because they're white doesn't mean they didn't have problems.

It's almost like they don't want to hear about anything that doesn't line up with their view of the world. I'd say it's that they only want to talk to people that already know their lingo, but the Sami person actually does know the right words (privilege! cultural appropriation!) and they're still not getting through because they're not trying to start a fight.

(Also, I despise the "all I read was...." thing. There's always more to the opposing argument than the person using that acknowledges, in my experience.)
