Sports animes

(Anonymous) 2014-02-13 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I watched all of Free and Kuroko no Basuke and really liked both of them. So I really want to watch a good sports anime (especially if it's kind of slashy). Does anybody have recommendations?

OOFURI. Please watch Oofuri. It's incredibly underrated.

There's a lot of baseball explanation, but the relationships between the guys are really sweet.

I seriously hope you don't think Free and Basugay are actually good.

Anyways, seconding Oofuri and adding Slam Dunk (the best basketball anime you'll ever watch, and it's awesome) and Hajime no Ippo.

Yeah, I liked them both.

the beauty of sports anime is they are all slashy tbh. if you are into that, anyway. Oofuri, Diamond no Ace, Yowamushi Pedal, One Outs.

and don't listen to that other anon cause Kuroko is great. people get in a tuff over some sports shows not being realistic enough, but who the hell watches/reads them for the actual sports. it's about team interaction and the thrill of their fight to win! but on that note if you DO care, Oofuri is very realistic in terms of games and sports talk. and still adorably wonderful.

Not all of us are obsessed with yaoi, you know. If you watch anime sports to fap to the guys, nothing wrong with there, I do it too from time to time. But some of us can appreciate a good sports anime for the sports.

not all of us still live in 2005 and use the word yaoi either. but let's not nit pick.

What do you use instead?

BL? Shounen-ai?

Anon is full of shit, ignore them. The one you're supposed to use is BL, but there are still tons of people that use yaoi. I would even say that there are more people using yaoi than BL.

So it's better to use BL instead of yaoi/shonen-ai, it's the correct one, but expect most people to use yaoi.

...I think they were addressing OP's "especially if it's slashy" comment.

Thanks, anon! Yeah, I don't really care for realism. It's kind of funny when their special skill/play is so absurd, the anime falls into the realm of magical realism. I'll definitely check these recs out. :)

My bro is a sports-anime fiend and he personally vouchs for Oofuri, Hajime no Ippo, and Air Gear if you're into fantasy rollerskating (with lots of slashy subtext, IMHO, though he is in deep denial of that part).

Prince of Tennis, Whistle!, Eyeshield 21.

I mean, PoT and Eyeshield are pretty typical 'against all odds'/'one player is surprisingly amazing!!' sports animes, but I love watching them anyway.
