Diagnose my internet problems, FS

(Anonymous) 2014-02-13 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Internet works for 10 minutes-several hours. Internet stops working. Unplug/replug router. Internet (usually) works. Internet stops working. Rinse and repeat for the past several days.

Do I need a new computer or a new router? Your guess is as good as mine.

I may or may not ever see replies to this.

My guess is the router.

When mine was doing that, we needed a new router.

You can also test that - if your internet works again when you just restart your computer and not the router, it's more likely the computer.

Yep, sounds like router to me, too. That was the exact same thing ours was doing before we replaced it, and there have been no issues since.

Fourthing router, with the additional comment that I have encountered this problem several times over my internet life. It's almost always the router, and when it's not the router, it's the internet provider.

A friend of mine had that problem - she was resetting her router constantly and thought she needed a new one. She rang her server and they reset her channel. Now her router works just fine.

She's in the UK and with BT, but my suggestion would be to ring your server and ask them for help.

Failing that, I'd try a new router before I bought a new pc.
